Launch
The UPM-Sat 1 satellite was injected into orbit on flight 75 of an Ariane IV-40 launch vehicle from the European Spaceport in Guiana (France), located on the northeast coast of South America. In order to reach this point, it was necessary to successfully pass qualification and acceptance tests, and to successfully complete all pre-launch operations, generically referred to as the launch campaign.
Following the usual procedure, the UPM-Sat 1 satellite launch campaign was divided into two phases, called respectively Satellite Operations and Combined Operations.
The first phase includes satellite operations, from the arrival of UPM-Sat 1 and support equipment at Rochambeau airport in French Guiana until assembly on the ASAP platform for adaptation to the Ariane IV-40 launcher, and lasted from 11 June 1995 (day D-21) to 23 June (day D-13).
The second phase runs from the end of the first phase (formally from the acceptance for launch of the secondary passengers by the primary passenger) to the launch. This phase involved all the different passengers involved in the V75 flight (the main satellite Helios, and the secondary satellites Cerise and UPM-Sat 1), and took place between 26 June (day D-10) and 7 July (day D-0).
After a launch in the nominal sequence, UPM-Sat 1 was injected into orbit according to schedule at 18.20 hours (Spanish time) on 7 July 1995.
